Engineer first, founder because the product needed to exist.

I'm Desmond Brown, a software engineer in Accra, Ghana. I work on the parts of a product that have to be right: data models, APIs, pipelines, the release process, and lately the native tooling that runs on the machine itself.

My background is unusual in a useful way. I started in backend work at mPedigree and GRADIA, spent three years leading a distributed team from Accra for a company in Hong Kong, and I'm studying electrical engineering, from October at HTW Dresden, while running Kavana Labs and building Quodra, a presentation platform where equations, circuits and charts are real objects instead of pictures. That mix shows up in how I work: I care about the physical constraints of a system, the correctness of its data, and whether a person can understand what it did afterwards.

Kavana Labs has two arms. One is a non-profit engineering-education programme for Ghana, for which I wrote the first course. I also direct projects and open source at Codetopia Community, a member-run community of builders in Ghana. The other builds products and takes on engineering work, which is where the automation studio Netivr lives.

Outside of product work I build tools I want to exist. Veyra is a Rust platform that indexes a machine's storage, explains where the space goes, and refuses to delete anything without a reviewable, reversible plan. Strain converts raw materials-testing exports into stress–strain analyses for the lab. Lately that itch has meant C and C++: a small text editor, and a geometry engine written to understand how CAD kernels work.

I have been coding since I was fourteen. Physics was my first love and still shapes how I think about systems, and I play piano when the systems win.

I'm open to relocation and to remote roles where backend and systems work is taken seriously.
